I long for fall.
To look out my window
And see cold trees
With bright, warm leaves.
How like the icy world,
And we,
Blazing softly, dancing in the wind,
As summer leaves
Winter surrounds us slowly.

But autumn is the smell of my childhood.
Of Halloween costumes lovingly made.
Of fresh-cut grass as aspen leaves –
golden, red, and orange –
See my family and I off to school.
We will learn (things) today,
And the world is exciting and full.
Fuller than you know.
But maybe you do.
Cold air condenses.
You breathe deeply.
Deeply.
You love. Deeply.
Cold and warmth
all tied up
in one.
I will always
love you,
More than you
can ever know.
