Harmony of the Spheres” is my latest composition, composed for Adams State University’s Zacheis Planetarium and Observatory.  Given my interests in music and astronomy, this was a very engaging piece to compose.

Some fun things to listen for in Harmony of the Spheres:

  • Low, droning Bb symbolizing a black hole discovered by NASA scientists that vibrates at a frequency equivalent to Bb.
  • Motivic quotes from the film scores of Contact (Alan Silvestri) and October Sky (Mark Isham).
  • Rising melodic lines gesturing upwards, as a symbol of looking upward in appreciation of cosmic harmony.
  • Falling melodic lines suggesting the force of gravity.
  • Initial harmonic interval of a third, referencing the Earth as the third planet from the sun.
  • This first third then opens into a fourth, suggesting both our exploration of the planet Mars and our attention and curiosity toward the universe beyond our planet.
